As our first tournament battles take place, they are already starting to do their job and show me what things need to be fixed with the battling system. But I wanted to see what the battlers themselves thought of it first! So, some of the things that I noticed were: These battles are going to go incredibly slow, unless we have some way to either RF or do multiple moves per turn. Secondly, the HP for all Pokémon will definitely need to be upped, as basic one level Pokémon are K.O.ing each other in two to three rounds. Third, we may need to increase the number of moves a Pokémon may know at once, just to give a little more variety since we can't really make these battles go incredibly fast.
Questions? Comments? Concerns? Discussion?
I'll update you as soon as I think of some more; and if you guys think of anything, please share!

I've looked at how the tournament is doing so far, and I think the HP definitely has to be increased, if we want Pokémon battles to last longer. >.< I think the trainer shouldn't tell the Pokémon to use moves all the time. There should be an option to pass, though I don't think it would ever be used (unless someone finds a way to use it). We could also make other commands, such as "dodge" and things like that, like in the anime. Maybe a dice would be used to determine whether it is successful or not.

I agree on the dice idea for the dodges. It seems more fair that way. I can't really say anything else on the matter though since I'm not a battling person.

@pinky: I don't know, in the anime, people saying "Dodge it" every other second just annoys the poo out of me, especially since it almost always works, even for the larger Pokémon. If we had some sort of dodging system, it would probably deal more with the accuracy of the moves rather than "dodge it". Although... I don't know if it would have much benefit being an actual command, since it would take up your turn and then they could just attack again next turn. I suppose it would be somewhat like a risky Protect. Maybe it could be used as an auto command. As for the pass thing, I guess we could, but... I don't really know what for, except maybe in multiple Pokémon battles.
@crazied: You can still see what happens though, so don't be afraid!

I don't really know what for, except maybe in multiple Pokémon battles. Eh, good point. We should probably add restrictions to the dodge to prevent it from being overused. Like, perhaps only 2 or 1 times per battle. The accuracy thing is a good idea if we were ever to implement a dodge system. Regarding a possible usage of the pass, it could probably be used by someone who has ordered their ghost type Pokémon to use Curse on a low health Pokémon that can't do much damage and is waiting for the opponent's health to get drained completely. I've thought about more ideas , and here are two: I've looked at the rules and realised that there are no critical hits at all. Not even a single mention. What?! This is mutiny ! Anyways, we can have maybe a 1/20 chance of landing a critical hit. When the Pokémon gets to land a critical hit, the Pokémon's gets to land more damage. - Increase the PP for lower accuracy
This is a little risky, as it might keep the battle going on for a longer time (possibly more longer than needed), but I think that this will make up for it by creating more suspense. However, more dices will need to be used in order to determine whether the move hits or not, but I think that this is manageable.
Tell me what you think .

We'll think of something, I'm sure. If not, something similar. Maybe like... one random dodge during the battle? But you can't know when?
I suppose if they were trying to save PP, that would make sense. It is something I kind of wished they had in the actual games, especially in certain situations. I think it could work.
Critical hits: Yes, that would definitely be something to think about. But, with all of these dice-requiring things being added, we may need to look for a new way to do our dice, rather than just our measly little forum one.
PP: Um, actually, that's what is going to happen, but since I haven't come up with proper PP and descriptions for moves yet, I've just been using 5/5 for all of them.

I'm not sure if we can do that, but maybe we can use the dice at the beginning of a battle to determine which round would each trainer get to use a dodge (I know we're adding to the number of dice used, but it's the only idea I can think of).
I don't know if we can come up with another type of dice that's more efficient, but I think we could have the referee make two posts or separate one post into two halves (I think that the former is better), so that all the battle's information would be organised and not jumbled up, and that we can refer to things more easily. The first post could be used to display all the variables and the dice, and the second one could be used to describe the battle and show the PP and health of the Pokémon.
Okay, then. I'll just wait for that to happen. But why not pull the information from some Pokémon wiki when you need it?

I don't know. Maybe we could make Dodge an actual move, so that it takes up the space of one move? With a lower accuracy, of course. Or maybe the Protect rule.
Oh, of course! That actually sounds like it would work way better. I'm surprised we haven't already thought of that...
Sorry. X.X We can't use the exact PP from the games because the moves work differently, and so does their accuracy, meaning the PP that you would find in the video games would probably be a bit unfair here, especially with status moves having a higher accuracy.

I honestly don't see this as too much of a problem but: whoever goes second has to respond to what the first person ordered, instead of it not knowing what's going to happen like in the games. What are people's opinions on the orders of the battle being sent over PM to the referee?

Honestly, I kinda thought about that, but I'm not sure if that would happen via PM. I don't know, seems kind of weird, but maybe if there was some sort of quick PM it would work better. I wonder if we shouldn't think about getting an option for battling over some kind of IM?
